Oh dear! I was so dizzy in the head when I was writing my last post that I forgot to say huge thanks to MRS WALSH'S Yr5&6 GROUP at BILTON PRIMARY SCHOOL, Harrogate. Thye'd asked me in to be their studied author.
Thank you everyone for welcoming me to your Literacy Class last Wednesday morning. It was great fun. I'm very glad you enjoyed reading my books - and I enjoyed role-playing Captain Harrible aka The Spectre of Hairy Hector tremendously. Could you tell? Altogether now: "Beware the Spectre of Hairy Hector!Ooooooaaaaoooooh!"

Got an exciting email today telling me that the copy-edited version of A Boy Called Mouse will be arriving back on my doormat tomorrow morning. Think this means a rather busy few days . . .

What on earth is happening to 2009? It's already more than mid-September, and I've posted nothing for you to read for ages. Sorry!
Why? Because it's the time when school visit requests start flooding in, which is great, but takes lots of admin time. Less great is the fact that I'm now having to say no, as I'm already booked up for October's Book Week. So please, if you want to book me, do choose another time of year. . .
On Tuesday last week, I spent a lovely Poetry Morning in FOREST OF GALTRES PRIMARY SCHOOL, near York. The week ended with a trip to WALTON MIDDLE SCHOOL and PIREHILL FIRST SCHOOL in Stone, Staffordshire.
I ended Friday with a cooling lemonade in the sunshine outside The Star, watching narrow boats passing through the locks.
Later I met up with two brilliant children's writers KATHERINE LANGRISH & JOHN DOUGHERTY for a peaceful, chatty evening prior to our Saturday appearances at THE FIRST STONE LITERATURE FESTIVAL.
All along Stone High Street ran an array of small tents, with children's authors authing away in each one. We three were joined by SUSAN PRICE, EMMA BARNES, STEVE SMALLMAN, MALCOLM ROSE and even more . . . A great time - especially as it wasn't raining. Thanks to all the children & students & grown-ups who came along for our sessions!
Last week some good book news came in, too. One of the friendly editors at Franklin Watts told me that they want my story MRS BOOTLE'S BOOTS for their Hopscotch series. Hooray!
Not only that, but my Bloomsbury editor sent me the rough design for the cover of my 2010 children's novel, A BOY CALLED MOUSE. Wow! It looks great, and the children in Stone really seemed to like it too. So very exciting!
