SCHOOL VISITS & SUNSHINE!
Here we go again! It's almost the new term, with school visits starting again, and calls and emails starting to arrive.
Today I'm checking and packing my "talk bags", because tomorrow morning I'm off to talk to all the staff of a primary school about "my life as a writer". It's an interesting beginning to two days of INSET on Writing Development, and I almost wish I could be with them the rest of the time. On the other hand, I do have other things to do - like writing . . !
I'm not sure if it's better to have the sky bucketing down rain, so people don't mind so much about starting school again, or brightly sunny, so that everyone can't help but feel slightly happy.
By the way, if you are interested in writing, check out an excellent blog:
AN AWFULLY BIG BLOG ADVENTURE. It has new entries most days, written by children's & teen/YA authors, but it's not childish!
DAYS WITH A STORYMAT AND A STORY TENT!
Today's my last
STORYMAT session for
Knaresborough's feva Festival. The second session was on Tuesday, and this will be the third. While I'm looking forward to the event, I'm also feeling a tiny bit sad when I think about all the people I've met and fun I've had during the project - and today, for me, it all comes to an end. However, the fabric collage will soon be brightening the walls of the library, and schools can borrow the Storymat & the Once Upon A Storymat book, and make up their own stories, so the project's energy will go on. A happy thought!
Yesterday was a long drive (thank heaven's that it's the school holidays!) over to the
MERSEYWAY SHOPPING CENTRE in Stockport, for sessions telling stories and reading my books to children and families. It was part of
STOCKPORT LIBRARIES "READING COMES ALIVE!" event, set in a comfortable marquee and a kind of throne for me to sit on. The throne was imposing for a while, but somehow I also ended up kneeling on the library mat singing nursery songs with the young audience. A really nice day, especially as the rain didn't rain on me, and the sun did shine. Thanks to all the organisers & helpers!
ONCE UPON A STORYMAT in KNARESBOROUGH
Hope you are all having a happy summer holiday, whether it's wet or dry. I have just been away for an enjoyable writing retreat week, followed by an enjoyable family party weekend. Today I'm back in my workroom, getting my mind around the
KNARESBOROUGH feva FESTIVAL STORYMAT PROJECT again.
I'm assembling the pages of the story I've written, and thinking last moment thoughts about how to tell and read the tales. The weather forecast suggests we may be doing the Friday afternoon session indoors, not on the lawns of
KNARESBOROUGH CASTLE.I'm rather excited because tomorrow I'm going to the library to see the complete Storymat for the first time, though I've already been "pasting" smaller images into the text to illustrate the
ONCE UPON A STORYMAT book.
And, by the way, I'm still waiting for news on my tome . . .
