Exciting morning, as I was asked to do a short piece on BBC RADIO LEEDS Breakfast Show. They have a lovely project going as part of the BBC RAW campaign. A local storyteller, ALEC WILLIAMS, has been putting together suggestions from listeners and devising a story - "Click the Mouse" - and a local art student, DALJEET RIYAT, has been asked to illustrate it. Hope there's a kind local printer out there who can help with the publication, as it would be great if the Leeds children & all the listeners can read the story soon. Fingers crossed!
But the real pleasur eof radio for me is that I do not have to get dressed up. There I was being elegant Mrs Media in my mind and voice, while wearing my baby-blue dressing gown with the cute rabbit on the front. A silly purchase, but so comfy. Much more relaxing than a Kylie-princess ball-gown.
Hooray, huzzah and all that! I've just seen the cover image for THE THIRD ELEPHANT on a certain online bookstore's website. So exciting to see the lovely cover out there where others can see and admire it, instead of it being only an image pinned on my wall, or deep within my school "talk-bag".
Helen Craig's moonlit painting is just so wonderful! Definitely a very cheery day!
Hello to everyone at APPLEGARTH SCHOOL, Northallerton, and thank you for yesterday's story ideas. Hope you have good fun with the rest of your Enrichment Week.
Thank you also to the really thoughtful person who helped me when I was busy with Book Sales - I was a bit too overwhelmed to catch you, but much appreciated.
(Sorry this is only a short entry, but the Blogger "machine" seemed to be playing up last night, so not sure if you'll see your name up twice, 'cos a second entry sometime shifts along a first one!)
NEW CAR, NEW YEAR, NEW FEAR!
Today was my first school visit of 2007. Not only was I dealing with worry about the day ahead, but also a "new" car to manipulate around the school car park. Yes, I Found a space quickly. It was under a tree. Afterwards my new car and I realised why it WAS the leftover space. (Birds 1, Dolan 0!)
Meanwhile, a big wave and a thank you to everyone at APPLEGARTH PRIMARY SCHOOL Northallerton, for all your story ideas today! Hope you all have lots more fun during your Enrichment Week.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Well, I took the Christmas tree down yesterday, the day after Epiphany. In a moment I'll be wobbling away at the top of a ladder, trying to put the boxes of decorations away in their very high cupboard. This "packing away" time always makes me feel quite melancholy, though I do love the brand new clean-ness of New Year's Midnight and New Year's Day, when hope seems possible. And early January, when I can pretend to be making resolutions, and getting my life in order. For a while, it works!!!
One of the resolutions is to do something about updating my website. Why? Well, over the last few weeks, I've gone from an almost empty 2007, publishing-wise, to having SIX books forthcoming. Many are early readers and re-tellings, but far better something than nothing. So look out for THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN; LITTLE TROLL; MR BABBIT'S RABBIT, and AT THE END OF THE GARDEN with Watts, SPIGGY RED with Evans, and of course, my lovely junior fiction novel THE THIRD ELEPHANT (Walker) which I will bore you about endlessly both before and after its April 2nd publication date. Excuse my crowing, but it is just so exciting!
Must go, folks. There's ladder-wobbling to be done.
