Hello Everyone!
I was amazed to see I haven't blogged at all for more than a month. Sorry! So what have I been doing?
A lot! I've been going to the dentist (big smile!);doing my tax returns (groan!); seeing friends and family for birthdays, and weddings, and pizza plus a whirl on the London Eye.
I've been reading my "Gardens through Time" stories at RHS HARLOW CARR GARDENS, and telling bedtime stories to the children who went to the Red House Book Award Ceremony at the HAY FESTIVAL. I've written a version of The Pied Piper, and liked planning out the story across the picture book pages. I tried writing some "synthetic phonic" reader scripts, too. What a totally wierd set of words!!!
BUT the most highly delightful moment was being sent a copy of illustrator HELEN CRAIG'S lovely, lovely coloured cover for my next book, THE THIRD ELEPHANT. It has a "surprise" back cover - dark night on the front, and sun-filled daytime on the back - so rather fun to see and admire. Even though the book isn't published till April 2007!
As well as tutoring the Adult Creative Writing Course, I've made "Author Visits" to BRICKNELL AVENUE PRIMARY SCHOOL in Hull, to THIRLBY PRIMARY SCHOOL, near Bourne in Lincolnshire, and also went to two schools in Rotherham as part of the Colourscape project - ST ANN'S J&I SCHOOL, and COLERIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL. Yesterday I was at BRADFORD CENTRAL LIBRARY and at KEIGHLEY LIBRARY to celebrate the Queen's 80th Birthday with lots of families & children, There was a special cake and a letter to the children from Her Majesty, which was her way of sharing out today's Buckingham Palace's Children's Literature event with everyone. (Thank you, librarians)
So THE HUGEST OF HUGE HOORAYS & THANK YOU'S & GREETINGS to EVERYONE I've seen. It's been a madly busy but good month for me, and I hope that you enjoyed meeting me as much as I enjoyed meeting YOU!
PLUS a HELLO to all the children of LONGSHAW INFANTS SCHOOL, BLACKBURN, who I will be seeing on Tuesday! (BIG WAVING HAND FROM PENNY!!!!)
Bye for now, everyone!
